From the Nyah Festival, flute player Garry Shannon lets us in on his incentive to master the playing of "The Contradiction Reel" in the key of A. With accompaniment by Pádraig O'Reilly on keyboard and Siobhán O'Donnell on bodrán, Garry plays two reels commencing with "The Contradiction Reel".

  • @grizzlybear0 You are right ..it is a bit of a bugger!

  • Got to say piano or keys with Irish tunes really suck!

  • This tune is O'Neills.I wouldn't even atempt to play it because it goes way up high. A real bugger of a tune. well done mate

  • did she sow the flange after all that...

  • that bird should call round and polish his flute.pronto.

  • @RDELAPLAZA He's a left handed player!

  • Is this guy playing ni a MIRROR ????

He has switched hands and side of the flute?

he is using the left and of the lower side and the right hand in the upper side and BLOWING THE FLUTE FROM THE OTHER SIDE ???

I thought that it was a video mirroring but the text behind the piano player are correct..! ! ?? WHAT ???

  • omg this is amazing! "The Contradiction" sounds pretty simple yet complicated at the same time when it was played on the violin. Job well done, Gary! sounds good enough for me....

    :)

  • @ceirarox To be fair to Gary this tune is difficult on a flute in any key and might be a bit easier had he chosen G for a simple system player.

Tunes with leaps are difficult for flute players ...such as :Hand me down the Tackle and Peter Street...you can easily have octave problems.

  • a young girl at the carolin harp comp in nober 2010 played it inA and 1 it no bother to her !! i think it was U15 and she was from sligo WHATS WRONG WITH YOU GARY !!!!
