'The Trains' (1962-2009) were one of the achievements of my father. They filled the basement of our New Jersey home, and (as any model railroader well knows) brought endless hours of joy on a schedule that just kept on going. The scenery was never finished, but there were plenty of locomotives and cars that could negotiate some interesting trackwork, such as the 'mountain line' that rose in back-spiraling curves up from the level of the table to the track that led up to the 'shelf railroad. Here a train of Pennsylvania Railroad heavy-weights is led by a pair of Pennsylvania and Erie-Lackawanna (!) PA units under the throttle of my son. All goes smoothly (until the end!), and that characterizes in a way the happiness and frustration that these trains bring. [As a note, this video is for the public to enjoy -- nothing is for sale.]

  • Well, I have to say that I only envy your large amount of space. I wish I have only the quarter of this space in my home. Pity the lack of knowledge about what Model Railroading really is , cos this layout is nothing more than a "bowl of spagetti"(no offense). Nothing related to the prototype, but rather only a big toy train. By the way, this annoying noise when trains are running is due to the lack of an appropriate roadbed.

  • @jhonny1392 It is snotty comments like yours that give model railroading a bad name. You have a very narrow view of what the hobby is, and frankly you give me the impression that you are rather juvenile, whatever age you may be. You are offensive, and I suggest that you refrain from engaging with people if this is all that you have to say.

  • wwoooooooowww!!!!

  • @dancinmike2004 none of my athearn's make that noise

  • my dad has a nice set of proto 2000 alco FAs for the L&N

  • Most of the "Noise" is from the locomotive. I bet the engine is an Athearn product also known as a grinder. I love your layout and the Last time I checked, it was yours to build how you wanted!

  • @railfanforever - Very well said. It's a hobby for everyone to enjoy in some form or another. It doesn't matter if you want to do everything prototypical or you want to have Thomas the Tank Engine pulling Auto Racks. Just have fun.

  • love your layout, lots of work done there for sure,,,,must have taken some time to put together. it looks like an older set , and it works well . What i hate is the dumb ass comments some people make about others setups, its a hobby majority of us love to do, what ever it looks like, it brings joy to us old or young, sound or not. Enjoy your creation it looks really good.

  • @railfanforever Well said...
