I have pretty high performance networking. Components are

Cisco DPC-3000 DOCSIS 3 modem ( modified )
Mikrotik RB450G Router ( modified )
Mikrotik RB750G Router ( modified )
Ubiquity Bullet M in 802.11 A Running DD-WRT firmware.

I have written various scripts for the RouterOS based routers to do various things like controlling the modem and functions like changing my MAC address every nite for a different IP every day. I also do DNS caching and use Google DNS.

Thankyou, have a good day mate.

Good point! I see how my original post comes across negatively without any productive input.

  • @krisdjames

I do agree with you on the fact that what he has setup is overly complex for no reason, although.it seems he had more fun doing it his way than another. To each is own I guess?

Maybe comment about the points of failure to perhaps educate the person who uploaded the video?

  • @jjtheclown

While I understand there are many ways to skin a cat so to speak, Having multiple pieces of hardware to accomplish what could be done in one is unnecessarily complex. When I say complexity I am referring to the many pieces being wired together to accomplish his goals. What I see here is many points of failure and inefficiency at a cost that is equal or greater than a single machine that can achieve the exact same goals. And this guy is using RouterOS in the multiple Mikrotik boards.

  • @krisdjames

Some people prefer different ways of doing things, he might be a person who prefers solid hardware as opposed to some unix based OS, It might be complex for you but it might be easier for him, Just like the router OS is easier for you. Might not be for him.

  • I guess this guy wanted to waste a bunch of time. For all the modding and crap that was done you could have installed RouterOS, Vyatta, pfsense... on a small form factor PC with multi port NICs. A USB relay controller could have handled the power cycling automation. What I see here is complexity for the sake of complexity.

  • How to you use the separate IPs? I have two IPs given to me by my ISP, but I have no idea on how to use both IPs at home. Please let me know.... do I need two routers?
