RTE post match coverage of Ireland vs. Italy in the 1990 World Cup. George Hamilton interviews Jack Charlton and Mick McCarthy in Rome while Bill O'Herlihy, Martin O'Neill and Johnny Giles discuss the match back in Dublin. Followed by a montage of Edith Piaf and No Regrets.
england lost to ireland cos they couldnt mark out a very small ray houghton. the player marking him was alot taller yet they still fuck it up. ireland and england are just as bad as each other! so slack

@ahgoodmorning thats the thing with ireland, they can beat most teams but they always show some incompetence in the basics of defending

@ahgoodmorning No, Brazil didnt win the World Cup in 1954 and the team that we played in 85(?) did not feature any players from a World Cup winning team. The Dutch team that we played featured World Cup Finalists and players that would go on to win the European championship. Again, the French team we played featured the players that finished third in 82. The Belgium team at the time was also one of the strongest in Europe.

@BobCassidy and don't forget we beat Brazil who won the world cup in 1954. No relevance - they never qualified cause it was a shambles of an institution( still is by the way - I'm sure we can both agree on that ). Charlton brought a plan and organization to our play - It was pretty but everyone knew their jobs and were successful.

@ahgoodmorning The 1982 World Cup, went out on goal difference to France who arguably should have won the World Cup. We finished ahead of Holland who were runners up 4 years earlier and would be European Champions in 6 years.

@BobCassidy isnt that how most teams score anyway - there's almost always a mistake- bad marking, misplaced pass etc - I see what you're saying but this was the golden age for Irish football - Christ we were number 8 in the world - And it was tactics that suited us - I would like to hear the argument before Jack because we still had great players and never beat anybody.

@ahgoodmorning Aaaaaah, me balls. Look at the results, when did his tactics work? No wins and teams arent gonna keep making mistakes so we can score.

he was right you moron - He had a plan and once they didn't stick to it and they scored! If a coach asks you to stand on your head for 90mins and you lose - it's the coaches fault. If you dont stand on your head for a minute and THEY score then it is your fault.
Punt away if it makes your 3 1/2 million people smile you monkey
