お茶の静岡と茶名人 History of Japanese Tea

静岡県牧之原市相良町の平田寺に、古い英文による石碑がある。翻訳してみたら大正4年9月、米国商館「ヘリヤ商会」が牧ノ原地方の今村茂兵衛たちを称えた感謝碑であった。­そこには明治時代、日本経済を支えた外国人茶商と、地域の茶業技術に貢献した人々の歴史が刻まれていた。
粗悪な茶が出回っていた明治の頃、彼らは秘伝と言われた高品質の茶を生産するために、どんな工夫をしていたのだろうか。そんな素朴な疑問が撮影の出発点でした。

There was a gravestone of English in the old temple.
At the time 1916 the gravestone was something which is sent from American "HELLYER&CO".
Thing below was written on the gravestone."Especially at a time when so many manufacturers are resorting to inferior method and producing unsatisfactory teas".
In the days of 1900 when tea of inferior quality was sold, what kind of device would they do to produce the tea of a high quality called a secret?
Such a simple doubt was the starting point of the photography.
