If you can send this around to your friends, it'd be a HUGE help! People have to know the truth about hermit crabs, and not enough people are doing much to help hermit crabs. Do it for the crabs.

Pet stores sell their animals for money. They sell all their special hermit crab crap just to get a few bucks off of you. Truth is, these products will kill your hermit crab. Do not trust what pet stores tell you when it comes to animal care. Research thoroughly outside of the pet store before believing anything a pet store tells you to do. They educate their employees wrongly just to get a few extra bucks off of you. This is utterly selfish and must be stopped.

Also, these animals are better off in the wild than in our homes. They will not thrive no matter how well you keep them. Please do not buy a hermit crab from a pet store. Instead, you can adopt one. Just search some Internet classifieds, newspapers, etc., and I bet you can find yourself a nice hermit crab for free.

Sorry for really making the description more of a rambling rant than a true description, but it's the truth.

Also, I urge you to sign the anti-hermit crab race petition.

  • Actually Using " Play Sand " Isnt That Well For Hermit Crabs.

A Better Product Is Eco Earth Which Is A Dirt Like Substance.

Sand Can Mold And If To Wet The Hermit Crabs Cant Burry Down And Molt.

Aswell As The Sand Sticks To Them , And If Its To Dry They Cant Burry Down In It.

Eco Earth Stays Moist And Keeps The Habitat In Nice Humidity Levels Without HavingTo Spray The Cage.

So You Might Wanna Learn A Lil More Facts About Proper Caring For Them(:

  • @BrandieBitch101 No, that sand that has calcium added to it is the one that molds. Play sand does NOT. Also, you need to watch, so you don't get it too wet.

  • great video! i have loved hermies ever since i was two, and bought some two summers ago. igrorantly, i had three in a tiny mesh cage with gravel. As soon as i found out how to properly care for them, i poured all my money into arranging them a better home. Now they have a nice tank, eco earth, salt water, water, three cocohuts, a terracotta pot, a fake log, hemp rope, second level, and two shell shops. I took in the last survivor of a friend and got an exotic E, all 5 are still alive =].

  • @xAizaOnigirix Aww, that's nice. :)

  • hey my hermit crab was in my hand and he fell off like 2 or 3 feet from the ground. would he die anytime soon?

  • @WildfireAH If he has any organ damage, then he will. However, if he doesn't, then he should be fine. Try not to do it again, though.

  • I actually quite trust the pet store I got my crabs from. They have all their crabs in natural shells, they have a fantastic tank for them, plenty of room for them, natural food and other multiple methods for keeping them comfortable. The employee I actually bought the crabs from has a large habitat for crabs of her own and gave me most of the care information that you display here. Also the hermit crabs were very inexpensive so it's definitely not just about the money with them.

  • I've never seen crabs kept in these conditions you're showing (the cramped, painted shell, crab clusterfucks). To be honest I would literally beat the shit out of someone If I did see crabs kept in those conditions. (Wow three posts to get everything out lol, and you probably won't even read them :P) Also I'm not attacking you or anything I guess I just got upset with you saying everyone treats their crabs like this, I've known people that have had their crabs for years and still going :)

  • (Continued from another post because I ran out of characters) On top of the care they take of their animals and the helpful information. The store actually works with the local animal shelter to find cats and dogs homes rather than them just having to be put down. I actually frequent the store because they're all great there. No this isn't some Local shop or anything, it's a Paulmac's Pet Food Plus Pets. I don't know if these are just the conditions you're seeing in the states or wherever.

  • you said in captivity they will only live a year or two but mine is going on 4

  • Some people are SOOOO cruel to those little guys! :(

  • I have a 4 year old hermit crab in CAPTIVITY. It was bought from this canoe full of sand on the beach. He's alive, healthy, and happy. So no, hermit crabs can live QUITE well in captivity.
