I finally got around to doing mine! I did exactly as you did, except trading khaki for a shade of green. For anyone wondering how a darker scheme may turn out, you can check out an example of one over on my channel.

@Centration Not if done with care. As long as no paint gets inside the gun or barrel, you shouldnt have any issues. This particular vid does not really show all my prep work, this is a basic run down for a quick job.

@LEPPKE911 Thanks for watching. A lot of the real steel guys start with a solid color as the base. For this vid, I did what was necessary to get the point across easily. This color combo was very basic, but you saw the effect in the video.
