  • Blecker stands on these abstract and subjective notions of justice, morality, duty, retribution, truth, etc. and I think this rhetoric clouds the debate in various ways. The sentence is of death, not suffering until death and I think this is a point of misunderstanding here. That is, death itself is the punishment for the crime, not torture. I'd be interested to read what Blecker has to say because my understanding as of now comes from second hand sources.

  • I can't believe that a professor of law would be caught saying in public that it's o.k. that an innocent person shpuld die if many guilty people are put to death.Anyone here heard of reuben cantu???

  • Robert Blecker was my criminal law professor last semester in law school. He is a genius and such a sophisticated lawyer. His arguments and perspectives on criminal law are unmatched.

  • @zoobiewa

Actually I've been looking more into him. His arguments are actually more sophisticated. I think he was deliberately baiting/getting a rise out of the audience last night and I don't think it entailed the nuances of his actual position.

  • I saw Robert Blecker speak last night. I've never seen a person that evil in real life. He is a sadist in the same way as an murderer. It's good that these views are out there, it's just hard to believe that he really believes his message because he seems so obviously contrarian. I do want to watch this doc, though.

  • Hey! That's MY voice! I was a reporter for News 2 in Nashville when I did that story on Darryl Holton. Where's my $??!!!!!

  • Watch the doc. Look at the interplay between these two men. They both agree on the death penalty issue. Morality, god, these are the fundamental issues that are addressed here. Daryl Holton has been dead for three years now. He chose the electric chair.

  • @Elias1212 Based upon the same grounds you base your opinions on, but obviously for different reasons. This clown is a fanatic IMO, based on my perception and my own personal knowledege of the penal/ punishment system and what it does and does not do for societies. I'll kill in a heartbeat to protect myself or my family but the death penalty is a revenge system which is based on the Judeo Christian belief system which I think ought to be expelled from this planet, forcefully if need be.

  • @guitarplayer4real

    Based on what grounds

  • @misstaipan

Blecker is not evil. He is a retributivist. Read up on that if you do not know what it means.
