@thepoet82 Clinton got to the surplus by dramatically reducing military expenditures, making America vulnerable to 9/11 which has cost us wars across the globe. Clinton's budget could be balanced on discretionary spending, Obama's budget must be balanced on entitlement programs. Finally, Bush inherited the dot com bubble burst so George W Bush inherited a deficit from Clinton because as we've seen, recessions equal less tax revenue.

@thepoet82 Funny, Under Clinton NAFTA was enacted which exported the remaining strength of our productive sector. As we operate under a fiat currency, we are now tasting the fruit of the seeds he planted. (As the main strength of a fiat currency would be it's production rate.)

@thepoet82 are you crazy? its not a matter of opinion. obama already raised the national debt more than bush did in 8 years. clinton did good with the debt but just because he was a democrat it doesn't mean that every democrat is going to do that. the projected national debt by the end of his first term is 20 trillion which is more than double the national debt at the time of bush leaving office. So he will have raised the debt more than every other president combined.
