My late 50's - early 60's G.E. C 2-409 tube clock radio. The spanish station is the only station that I could pick-up that close to my computer. This clock radio has no alarm, just a auto on feature. The cord has been ripped off the back plug so I soldered the cord on, thats why I can turn it on with the back off.

  • I can hear THAT same station here in Ontario, after 5pm!

It fades in & out, but it sounds same as in your vid!

They must have 1 hell of a good transmitter eh.

I can not understand Spanish language, or I could listen nightly.

  • @RetroCaptain I cant understand Spanish either. You must not be too far from the Minnesota border. I do believe that I pick up a few faint stations from Canada, I also pick up a few stations from other surrounding states. That AM band can travel some ways away...

  • Good day

I have the transistor version of this model!

It was made 1970. The tube models were less costly back then. Mine works, but has a high bias problem. Looks good like yours.

The radio will play a long time, just keep it away from CFL's and WI-FI internet waves...they "rob" AM signals.

I live in Ontario, & can pick up a Mexican radio station 1460. (I hear it when CJOY 1460 lowers their signal

  • @RetroCaptain those transistor models were nice also. I use this tube radio regularly, I have spare tubes if any go out. Cell phones can also interfere with the AM band. Besides 1500 KSTP, the Mexican station (which is at 1460 here too) is the second strongest. KLBB that is now on 1200 used to be on 1460 but that KMNQ 1460 purchased the space since the Twin Cities has a ever growing population of Mexicans. Just in the last year or so we did get WDGY 740 "The True Oldies Channel".

  • I've never actually seen one on with the back off, looks some what cool. How did you get the back plug to break off?

  • The interlocking prong was broken off the back when I got it, so I cut the rubber interlocking plug off and soldered the wires to the circuit board. Now it works great.

  • @airplaneengine I've had pretty good luck replacing those with old Norelco shaver cords. There's also probably a way to order them, but I've never had to. My 1978 Sears console TV has a polarized version of the same cord for some reason (force of habit?). It doesn't really need it, with the "no user serviceable parts" warning, but it still has a live metal chassis.
