My tiny but elusive bamboo shrimp, eating. The bog black thing that bumps into the shrimp at one point is one of the bug-eyed goldfish that also live in the tank.

The bamboo shrimp is a filter feeder, using tiny fans to catch particles of food. The fans fold up into little claw-like housings, and these shrimp can also use those "claws" to pick up larger bits of food from the bottom of the tank. This particular bamboo shrimp has learned that the fish often leave food behind between the rocks, which he can get and eat by using his "claws" to grab the particles.

  • He is very hungry mate.. dont let him look for food like that..

  • @ogmusicmaker bamboo are coldwater as well...

  • @byronreese u need a tropical tank for bamboo shrimp

  • Where do you get bamboo shrimp? I'd like some for my goldfish tank

  • Bamboo legend

  • ghost shrimps are known to catch and swallow a fry whole and still see the live fry in its transparent body. it is very interesting to see and sad at the same time. if youre trying to breed guppies then do not keep a shrimp in your tank unless u intend them to eat it.

  • and that gives the shrimp some useful food as well. He seems to have stopped growing at the rate he was when we first got him, but he still sheds his shell once a month or so. Even with the water being very clear most of the time, he doesn't seem to be having any troubles. If you have fish that are "dirty" in terms of waste produced, you can slightly overfeed once in a while if you are really concerned about the shrimp, and I think that should be fine.

  • but so far he seems to be doing fine. We also stir up some of what falls between the pebbles on the bottom (we use a suction pump to clean that stuff out when we do a water change, but that we only do once every 2-4 weeks, usually),

  • We added him to a tank with 2 large goldfish, hoping he would take care of some of the cleaning duties. We eventually added a biowheel filter, and were worried that he wouldn't get enough to eat,

  • do you feen him anything special, I just bought 2 yesturday and although my tank is 2 years old and well established I am afraid that it might be too clean
