Maynard was/is a terrific high-note player, but I just recently discovered Andrea Tofanelli. I have been a Maynard fan for over forty years, but Tofanelli...
... I don't know...
...I think that Tofanelli is cleaner, especially in the upper register.
I don't mean that "Maynard sucks"; he will always be one of the "great screamers"! Tofanelli, though...

@00beefmaster00 That's similar to the story I heard from a former member of Maynard's band. He said that it was written with the thought that NOBODY could play it, both the high registers and the complicated notes. I heard Maynard sight read it in a cab. This recording is with the Stan Kenton orchestra on the Ed Sullivan show (if this has not been previously posted). Ed called Maynard out after it.
