It's amazing to watch this and hear it. I've had those images (the light, the camera, the film cut) and that music in my mind for years. For a long time I didn't think I'd ever see it again. Thanks for uploading! This was when watching a movie on TV really was an event. Sure wish CBS would still show bumpers like this, but it would cater only to the nostalgia buffs, I suppose.

@38yofrmut That movie scared the bejeezus out of me when I was younger too. It still does.

CBS isn't nearly as bad as the other networks at oversaturation of the market of reality shows. They only have two: The Amazing Race and Survivor. What CBS has too much of is comedy and procedural crime dramas, especially the latter. But guess what: people are watching. If the American people want some primetime variety from CBS, they should watch something else, like SyFy. We need more scifi shows on network tv, they are completely unrepresented save Terra Nova.

Back in them days, cable was just getting going and most people didn't have it yet. Movies on broadcast tv was traditionally a special treat. I remember my parents smelling up the house with popcorn and no it wasn't microwave either. A friend of mine in high school got cable and it was cool to go over and watch HBO all night.

For a while after I saw CBS' movie openers it would scare me because one of the first CBS movies I saw back in the early '80's was "Carrie."

I agree with you 100%. I remember the 70's very well, and I used to go through those TV Guides, too!!
Good quality and an epic opening.TV has been flushed down the toilet now.
