it is difficult to promote yourself especially when your budget is tight.

Promotion is tricky for writers.

As a longtime freelancer, I will admit it took me years to learn that.

Granted I was writing steadily for publications but I never really promoted myself until a few years ago.

Part of it comes from realizing that you are in business and that you have to think in business terms at times.

My advice: Have general cips to send to publication and talk up yourself subtly and cautiously if you cover an event.
