The 'Dubbele Biphone', a 90-key Carl Frei street organ from the 1930s, playing here on test at Utrecht's Speelklok tot Pierement mechanical music museum. On this organ the music book is not being hand-turned through, but has a motor and belt driving the main wheel, a very common addition or conversion on such instruments.

  • This organ has 78 keys,not 90.

  • It does have 90 keys - it was originally a 72 key Koeningsberg dance hall organ and was rebuilt by Carl Frei into a street organ. :)

  • @nickn5nl This organ has 78 keys but uses a duplexing system allowing it to play to the 90 key scale.I have seen the organ in Utrecht and know this information is correct,i also have a C.D. confirming it.

  • Ah right, so it has 78 physical keys but plays to 90 key, that makes sense, thanks for that info.

  • @nickn5nl Almost every 90/89 key Carl Frei organ has 11 keys not working :-( so the 90 key CF's are all 78....

  • You can always rely on a Carl Frei organ to produce a good sound. Great!!

  • Cinema Roal Mars.
