  • Hey patrickJMT, I just started classes for my major, and my teacher for calculus is so disappointing. I love algebra, and I love the material I'm learning, but I'm working my butt off trying to make up for the incompetence of my teacher. I'm just afraid I'm gonna burnout further down the road like others have. Did you ever feel like this? Can you give me any advice?

  • @Jawbreaker2237 well, you are going to have better and worse teachers; nothing you can do about that. if you are interested in a subject, a 'not great' teacher you have should not diminish that; you may just have to work a bit harder on your own. every student every where has to deal with this. : ) i mean, you gonna let one lousy teacher be enough to make you ' throw in the towel ' on a subject? : ) not me!

  • Does it only work for 2 digit numbers?

  • @uabm it works for larger numbers, it would get a bit more complicated though

  • i understand steps 1 and 3 and why that would work. but can you explain why step 2 works when you cross multiply? I love this trick, way fast! I would love to teach this strategy with some of my students, but I want to be able to explain why we do step 2 and how it works. Please help.

  • @sjnegley0526 well, if you are a teacher i think you should be able to figure it out. it is not anything deep : )

  • When will you show the quick way?

  • thats called a grid method I did that in school

  • Wow!!!! I never knew. Wow. Thank you, Patrick!!!!

  • @patrickJMT Yeah, I suppose as long as i'm enjoying what I'm doing, then it's not work in the typical sense. I'm taking a few meaty classes right now, with not so great teachers, and it feels a little overwhelming some times. Anyways, thanks for the reply, and I just wanna say you remind me of my Algebra 2 teacher - the best teacher I've ever had!
