For my birthday, I went to Minnesota to go to a hotel, stay the night, and drive home. We came across an old farm that had a sign out front saying 'All horses for sale'. Something told me to turn off the interstate, and go take a look.. I turned off interstate and entered the farm.. There were skinny farm dogs, old farm equipment laying everywhere, wire fences, and a barn with a horrible roof that looked as if it was to fall in any moment. I met up with the owner of the farm and I could tell right away he wanted nothing to do with me. He told me to go look at the horses.. whatever you want you can have. I can't deal with these *censored* animals anymore.
After he left I went into the barn. There were about 30-40 horses all in a group, standing in the corner. Most were skinny and could see ribs. Others were old pregnant mares and had huge dips in their backs. I remember seeing a splotch of white among all the chestnuts and blacks. I could see the colt was young and beat up.. He looked emotionless.. I tried getting his attention but he didnt even flicker an ear. I went to find the owner and told him I was interested in the young white colt. He told me that this horse was brought to the farm about a year ago, because his old owner was too old to care for any of the horses he had. I told the owner that I will be back tomorrow to come see him, as the colt was obviously too weak and tired to be played with.
I came back the next day and the owner had him in a square pen.. He had a rope around his neck and sweat all over. His eyes were bloodshot. I tried to get to know the little colt and about 3 or 4 hours later, I was in the pen with him, picking up his legs, and was able to get a halter on him.
I bought him home and we have been growin strong ever since! I tuned him up, & turned him into a barrel horse. we are currently the North Dakota high Point state champions. We've come so far in three years. This horse is now almost 6. He is 20% thoroughbred and 80% appaloosa. This horse is my world.. I have survived a suicide act and was diagnosed with depression when i was 10. This horse has literally saved me. when we gallop, I swear my heart forgets to beat the whole time. I grew up riding horses and taught myself to ride. If you wanna know the real secret on how to ride, you've gotta put you heart into your horse. Give him your trust and do not take it back. you give em your heart, he'll give you his. You only have one life to live.. kick back on your busy life, forget your stresses, and just run until your worries are gone.
@VintageStar385 That is not the highest a TB can run. The average racehorse runs 50mph. Some quarter horses have ran up to 55 miles per hour.
