Seen in Lee Bay, Pender Harbour, British Columbia at about 4:05 p.m. on 27th February 2010 - about the time the remnants of the tsunami from the Chilean earthquake might have arrived. Shots of the scene before and after the disturbance show that the sea was calm and undisturbed and there were no boats in the area. A boat had gone by a short time before but it was a small one and obligingly it went by again about half an hour later. The final three clips show the boat and its wake - very much less than we had seen in the time under consideration. Was this the last of the tsunami arriving in a bay known to magnify waves arriving from the south west? Or was it just the wake of a boat that had somehow been unusually enhanced? We see all sizes of water craft go by right up to cruise ships and none produces a wake pattern like this. If it was the real thing, it would have followed a complicated route along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, up the Strait of Georgia and into the Malaspina Strait, so not much of it would be expected to survive by then. The most dramatic part of this video is in fact the sound. There is a very marked increase in wave noise as the waves (clearly seen in the preview still) arrive on shore.

  • I make no claims for this video. The facts are:

    - a disturbance happened in the water that was not typical

    - there was no watercraft activity to explain it

    - it happened at exactly the time that the last remnants of the Chilean earthquake was predicted to arrive

    - having said that, the disturbance in the video was not the type that would be expected from the tsunami

  • a frieshter probly came by

  • The land at the back pf the picture is Texada Island and larger vessels usually travel up and down on the other side of that. If a ship large enough to make a wake like that had gone by, it would have been most unusual and we would have seen it anyway. Some days are very busy and there are all kinds of wakes around. That particular day was unusually quiet.

  • Is that your first time seeing a wave??

Might as well get your surf board out, after all, that was a pretty "exciting" wave...

    Ffs

  • It was even more exciting when the tsunami grew to 10x it's original size and chased that boat at the end! It was like the day after tomorrow, today.

  • @Hardyzzfan Super late, but in 2015 or something, there's supposed to be a tsunami.
