David demos on a portrait he is currently working on and also displays a realistic self-portrait that he created using only encaustic wax paints.

Thanks for the tutorial! Most informative and inspiring That's a fine portrait you're working on. Very nice^^ Now I want to try to paint in encaustics! wonder if it is an expensive medium--equipment etc.?

@denisethepainter It's easy to get started! You can pick up a hot palette or pancake griddle at major stores like Target or Walmart. Hot Sticks are a great way to try out encaustics and Hot Cakes come in tins that can be heated right on your palette. @vicarioustube Encaustic wax paint which is a mixture of beeswax and damar resin will soften and begin to melt at approximately 150 degrees F. If your room in your house or studio exceeds 150 degrees - run for the nearest exit because your place is on fire!
