This is MRC's sound decoder for Kato N scale SD80. Even though MRC doesn't mention SD90/43MAC anywhere, it works too. Mine is a Canadian Pacific SD90/43MAC.

The installation was simple. It's really a plug N play decoder. I have to admit the sound is very soft, i had to turn off my computer before i could listen to the sound. It has 4 different engine sound. Two of them sounds like older EMDs and one which sounds abit like Alco. Not sure what is the remaining one.

*I know SD90/43MAC doesn't sound like this but i dont care. Having sound in N scale at this price is good enough.

  • do you have to modify the body? and is the sound automatic? or push button?

  • @mrclay1964 Nope, for SD80, nothing to modify except replacing the board with the provided decoder. The engine sound is automatic but the others like horn are using buttons.

  • very nice i am getting a sound decoder from mrc for a ac4400 and i hope i dont have any trouble withit thisis my first one i have the older atlas dcc so i dont know what will happen

  • @trackspike64 Thx! I guess you shouldnt have any problem running on your atlas dcc. It even works on DC but cant control the sounds effects.

  • Yep, i used a MRC's Prodify Express to test the decoder. Prodify Express seems like a great deal, USD110 plus shipping from US to Malaysia!
