  • I had lap band done 9 days ago and had 5 incisions on my abdomen. All 4 little ones have healed, but the one where they put the port is taking longer. It also hurts everytime i breath... is it normal?..Yesterday ..it was swollen like a cone..and dr sd to use heating pad. the swelling went down... but i am worried about the pain i have everytime time i take in air........pls someone..tell me if it is normal inittial stages.. I am getting so worried.

  • By 9 days out most of the tenderness should be gone. It is not normal to hurt that much, but what is less normal is the swelling you described. I would be concerned about an infection. At the very least you should be seen by your doctor and it decided if antibiotics, opening incision, removing the port or just that nothing should be done.

  • Wow, that sure is a lot of broo-ha-ha for a band fill. Mine take less than 5 seconds, and does not include an IV. From the people I know with the band, no one goes through all that.

It can miss, and it's not painful.

  • You are one of the lucky ones then. The fill vol that is the correct amount for 1 person maybe different for another. If someone is giving you a set volume at set times, you are being cheated. Also your experience seems to be N=1. I see hundreds of patients a month and fill patients from lots of other surgeons. Filling can be hard or difficult and the actual placement of the needle in the port is not the hard part of the fill.

There is no IV. Tubing that you see is part of the huber needle.

  • Is there an advantage to using "big needles" as described here, versus a regular gauge needle? Other videos on here show just a regular needle being used, no need for anesthetic... And someone on here mentioned that their dad actually gets an injectable anesthetic?

  • The needle used is a speical non-coring needle called a Huber needle. A regular needle will damage the port and cause it to leak. Depending on how deep the port is (based on fatty tissue) you can use between a 19 to 22 gauge needle. We use a spray anesthetic. 1 needle stick is better than 2. This is not painful when done correctly.

  • tallsmartbeauty...everyone does what is right for them...how about avoiding the negativity and praising people for choosing to save their own life...no matter HOW they do it. :) peace.

  • I'd never have gastric, not everyone has 6 months to take off from work. No, thank you. I'm 3 years out from the lap-band and I'm normal weight. It took me two years.

  • My uncle lost 110 lbs since August last year.

I got my lap band last week and i gotta get esophagram in two days before fill #1

  • I had a fill on monday (June 5th) and it is now saturday (June 11th) and I've managed to lose 7 lbs (Working in the yard over 6 or 7 hrs may have been of some help too.)

After 4 days I becan having problems swollowing even soft foods and get full after about three or four bites. I can only drink out of a glass, not a sports bottle or can.

Even though this is about my fifth fill this isn't the first time that I've had this problem.

What should I do? Go back and have some fluid taken out?

  • @Tumbleweedgirl can be such an ass!

  • has it really come to this ?? just shut your mouths people !! it's not any special magic!

    simple.

  • i had mine a month ago and my first adjustment was this morning, it took many trials to reach the appropriate fill :) i lost only 14 pounds bec. i wasn't exercising :( but i'll try harder starting from tomorrow :)

  • o m g that looks painful as hell!!

  • Just had my first 3 cc fill today. I have the Realize Band and it's below my right rib cage. The Dr. first numbed the area with some lidocaine. I barely felt anything. I definitely feel more restriction.

  • Does it hurt a lot?
