Department of Defense demands for surveillance, intelligence and reconnaissance data from both airborne and space-based (satellite) assets are steadily increasing. Meeting these demands has become progressively more challenging with current technologies. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is working on a solution to combine the advantages of both asset types. Vulture will develop and demonstrate the technology to enable a single high-altitude unmanned airplane to operate continuously on-station, unreplenished, for a period of five years.

Is this part of their high/low altitude GPS surveillance system of PINS ( a knock off of GWEN?)

DARPA news release from
Sept 15, 2010

Vulture technology enables a re-taskable, persistent pseudo-satellite capability in an aircraft package. The technology combines the key benefits of an aircraft (flexibility & responsiveness, sensor resolution, reduced transmit/receive power, affordable deployment) with the benefits of a satellite (on-station persistence, no logistics tail, zero emissions, energy independence, minimal fleet size, absence of in-country footprint). The system has potential in numerous roles: operation as a single platform, as
a formation of multiple aircraft or as a constellation providing infrastructure augmentation or recovery.

"The Vulture technology offers a revolutionary capability of affordable, persistent airborne operation that shatters some fundamental aviation and space paradigms", said Daniel Newman, DARPA program manager. "It is applicable to a wide range of current missions and applications, and offers new opportunities for tomorrow's requirements."

The Vulture program will conduct subscale and full-scale technology maturation and demonstration activities to prove-out critical technologies. The key technical pillars include solar energy collection, reliable and efficient energy storage and retrieval, aircraft reliability and mission assurance, and aeroelastics and flight control of a very large, flexible, lightly-loaded aircraft structure.

Robust Electric Laser Initiative (RELI)
Several Northrop Grumman high-energy laser thrusts will come together to meet RELI's objectives. In addition to JHPSSL Phase 3 technology, these include two fiber laser initiatives:

+ Revolution in Fiber Lasers, a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency program that aims to scale fiber laser amplifier technology up to 3kW, and the
+ 2-Dimensional Diffractive Optical Element Beam Combining Demonstration, a U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) program under which Northrop Grumman is demonstrating diffractive beam combining using AFRL's high-power fiber test bed.

Precision Inertial Navigation Systems (PINS)

Current military navigation systems use updates from Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites to enhance the Inertial Navigation System's (INS's) knowledge of their current position. However, GPS transmission is vulnerable to jamming, and signal reception is difficult or impossible in certain geographic instances (underwater, in urban or natural canyons, underground, etc.). Without GPS updates, INS positional accuracy drifts with time at a rate of a few miles per hour (referred to as the drift rate of the navigation system).

The Precision Inertial Navigation Systems (PINS) program seeks to use ultra-cold atom interferometers as an alternative to GPS position updates. Advancements in atomic physics over the past two decades have allowed scientists exquisite control over the external quantum states of atoms, including the deliberate production of matter waves from ultra-cold atoms. This has allowed the development of matter wave interferometry techniques to measure forces acting on matter—including high-precision atomic accelerometers and gyroscopes. An inertial navigation system that used this technology would have unprecedented drift rates; however, many scientific and technical challenges remain. The PINS program will demonstrate a high-precision atom interferometer inertial navigation system on an aircraft by the year 2013, with a total system volume under 20 liters. As this is an entirely inertial system, it will require no transmissions to or by the platform—a jam-proof, non-emanating inertial navigation system with near-GPS accuracies .

  • It certainly does fit the application as suggested.

May also be useful as a cheaper form of spyplane/eye in the sky, esp w/ cloaking...

Excellent channel db - you provide a very big part of the missing pieces of the bigger picture.

  • @Jokertattooo Thanks and I hope nothing was lost in the translation about the capabity of these devices interconnecting as a multiple system or as a CONSTELLATION (mimics Star Constellations, etc) They can connect in flight Way more cheaper than monolithic satellite(s) as gets it's energy/power from sky Add nanotechnology to that and you got eyes in the skies wherever they want them It still comes down to they are stealing our life, liberty and our rights to our privacy Take Care

  • The thing about project bluebeam is that the holographic field of technology is a reasonable cause for devolpment, everything the gov does has a good and bad reason behind it. The " government " and corperations are working on all kinds of things.

  • @topjonn Holographic field of technology IS NOT A REASONABLE CAUSE to develop Sorry I have to disagree If you control the projector then bottom line, you would have to control it's surface that it is projecting onto of a CLOUD SURFACE Capability of making our skies into a projectable surface is a HAZMAT spill all of us can do without , nevermind it's bad or suppose to think good intentiion behind it

Power and greed have always been the root of all that is evil

  • @dbootsthediva Something like VFR battlefield imaging. I never said project bluebeam is a good idea, im saying ALL forms of tech and science has been completely perverted and explored or will be in the future. Itsx an eventuality. I said holographic tech is good, not project bluebeam, as it stands now, bluebeam is exposed and obsolete, its never going to happen so dont worry.

  • @topjonn Our reality is whatever became obsolete, another more advanced version takes it's place That more advanced version is up n running n routinely being tested 3-4X a month of happening Like the program GWEN (ground wave emergency network), the backup 4 them, in case of a national disaster, if elec grid fails When program got exposed they just gave it a new name n hide it away under a Homeland Security budget where no eyes could pry Wireless is their back up grid

  • wait so you're telling me... you built a uav... outta football stadium lights???

  • That thing flies? Are you kidding me?

  • How incredible!! Thank you my dear!!

  • @topjonn yeah -- what ever you do - don't ask questions... can ewe say 'bahaa'

  • I ment the object looks simular to the one seen on this video lol

  • This (link below) looks like this (above) video here

    watch?v=Ba-Xp2f8dsc&feature=related

  • @dbootsthediva ARTISTIC???

  • @dbootsthediva all types of technology will be perverted to the max, all avenue's explored regardless of weather the gov does it, or the private sector. The goverment develops technology, once it is tried and trued, we all beneffit from these advances either offensively or deffensively, its a cold war evolved and most of us have no buisness question national security, we all dont have a clue of how dangerous things have become. PROJECT BLUEBEAM is exposed, if it ever was secret.
