Feeding the pigeons at my parents' house in 2007.

Since then, the neighbors have installed a new patio, landscaped their yard (including bonsai and topiary trees), and purchased new lawn furniture to have parties with their friends. About three weeks after they had finished with their yard, they called the Health Department on my parents because they didn't want the pigeons pooping on their new fancy yard. An official came out and told him to stop putting the food on the ground for them, which basically meant, "Stop feeding them" altogether as pigeons are extremely messy eaters.

It literally almost crushed my father, because he loved those pigeons. We all did, but he was hit especially hard by it and we do not have these little guys at the house today. :'(

  • I hate your neighbors.....

how did you get them to go away

  • @starpowergo - We stopped feeding them, and eventually they all left. We still have pigeons in the neighborhood, but not as many.

  • are those wilds?

    man!

    thats a lott!

  • They were wild. My father used to feed them, but he did it for so long they became semi-tame. Their neighbors called the Health Department on him for doing it though, so now he can't feed them like he used to anymore. :(

  • Actually, that's not nearly true. Pigeons are everywhere and if they carried disease like some try to claim, we'd all be sick. And another consideration, if pigeons didn't eat so much of the garbage people throw away, there would be a lot more for rats - real rats. No, pigeons are just birds like all the other birds and they're quite darling when you get to know them. They make wonderful pets and they're great parents who mate for life. We could learn a lot from them if you ask me.

  • omg how did you get that many in your garden

see all
