Question. Why does JJ's (our miniature Dachshund 's mouth smell SO bad? I know it could be that he needs a deep cleaning which we are going to do...but could it be something else? We had a vet say it was a stomach issue...I as a logical, thinking person don't buy for a second that this kind of smell and this strong...could be originating from anything that is in the stomach...it has more of a local, dry "feel" to it...I don't see any problems around the gums area...I think it is time to go back

The number one reason for bad breath in dogs is periodontal disease. However, your vet is correct by not being able to rule out other issues including GI disorders. Even poor kidney or liver function can cause bad breath.
Since JJ is a dachshund I'm betting on really nasty teeth. Don't be surprise if he needs to lose a few.
Don't let the periodontal disease go on too long. That can cause secondary diseases like kidney, liver and heart, not to mention a really painful mouth.
Good luck!
