How to customize your iPhone 4, 3gs, 3g, 2g iPod Touch SMS text tones

Bonjour all,

Thanks for joining me today. If you want to change your iPhone SMS text tones follow these few simple steps to success ;)

1.Edit an mp3 file with your chosen editing software. You can follow this link to download the editing software I use in my video for free.

2.Edit and make the tune as short as possible, approx 1-3 secs.
3.Once you are done editing , save the file as an .aif file
4.Save the file to the desktop.
5.From your desktop, or wherever you saved the file, right click and rename it to one of the following:

sms-received1.caf
sms-received2.caf
sms-received3.caf
sms-received4.caf
sms-received5.caf

6.SSH into your iPhone and reach this directory: (See my video on how to do this)

root/system/library/audio/uisounds

7.Once at the uisounds dir, edit the file extension that is the same name as the sound you created on your computer from .caf to a .bak file! You do not want to lose this file; it is the original text sound on your iPhone!
8.Copy the .caf file from your saved location into this iPhone uisounds directory
9.Now go to the SMS tones on your iPhone and listen to the new sound. Enjoy!!!

Note: Whatever the number of the file, count down the SMS tones that many and this will be the new tone. The names dont change, only the sounds.

10.If you want to change the sound back. Simply SSH into your iPhone/touch go to the uisounds directory and delete the file you placed in here. Once this is done, edit the .bak extension and put .caf. Now your original sound for text notification will be replace.

@crazy4GMH In this case it does need a Jailbreak, however, if you nt comfortable with the process you can always purchase ringtones from the iTunes.

So im using FileZilla, which is basically same as winSCP but i have no host. I tried to use winSCP but i had no host then either. How do i get a host? or what else do i need to do?

i need help :( i got two text tones from my iphone and i cant find them and i got a ringtone too and they wont show on my phone i check my purchase history and i did pay for them and i report a problem and they havent done anything about it can some one help me out thanks
