Sam Haskell promised his mother, a hard-working nurse and homemaker, that he would live a decent life. And from his boyhood days in small-town Mississippi to his years as one of Hollywood's most powerful agents, he stood by those words. Haskell rose from the mailroom of the famed William Morris Agency to become the company's Worldwide Head of Television, helping to engineer the success of such blockbuster hits as Everybody Loves Raymond and Roseanne. Through it all, he strove to live by the principles that his mother taught him: faith, honesty and self-reliance. Now retired from show business and engaged in philanthropic work, he pays tribute to Mary Kirkpatrick Haskell in a newly-published memoir entitled Promises I Made My Mother.
