@kosenjudo. You might be familiar with only sport judo. Ground work is included in traditional combat judo. Japanese JJ is spelled Ju Jutsu. "Jitsu" is Portugese word that is spelled the same as the Japanese word for 'fruit'. Obviously JJJ is not 'The study of fruit'. Silly, but spelling matters.

The founder of Judo taught people Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. The founder of Judo derived Judo from Jiu Jitsu manuals. The techniques are same, just the difference comes in the sport. You don't see such moves in Judo because you are not always allowed to hold your opponent except for in certain situations like an armbar and can't use feet above waist except for when you are in mount. You can only grab your opponent's uniform or Gi.

@kosenjudo Yep! :) Correct me if I'm wrong but...Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was developed separately, though in "modern" BJJ, they took some techniques from Japanese JJ. So it's not BJJ from Judo, it's just that Judo uses a technique from Jap JJ, and so does BJJ :) Unfortunately, too many dojos have changed Judo from a martial art into a sport. They don't even make you do in-class exercises, some just give you the techniques. Too bad, you can't be unfit and better than someone who is fit.

@grahamhg Show me where this has been done in any Judo tournament...It is a more common technique in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. All techniques in Martial Arts are shared by other arts. Judo came from Japanese Jiu-Jitsu.
