In1993 the late great John "Nitrous" Gosson told me that the first time he'd seen/heard a nitro engine run, he was totally un-impressed and wondered what the big deal was. "Then they switched it to nitro methane and I quickly understood what the big deal was"--- lol--- RIP

August would suit me well, I will seriously consider that, thanks :)

@turboslag Swing on up to Brainerd International in Brainerd, MN for the Lucas Oil Nats in August. You can camp out in "The Zoo" and check out some of the fastest drag racing in the country. Tony Schumacher set the speed record there at 337 mph a few years back, still getting in the 320's as of last year. Bandimere in Denver, CO is another one of my favorites. With the altitude, damn near 6000 ft, the times and speeds aren't the greates, but, the side by side racing is awesome.

Dont these cars have to have Blower Straps?

Cool, cheers for that, I'll check it out. Problem is, I wouldn't want to come back !

@turboslag The ONE event I would go to is the March Meet at Famoso drag strip in California or the Fuel and Gas Championships at the same track.

Ok, Ok, don't gloat about it !! LOL !! Seriously dude, I would move to the US in a heartbeat if I could, JUST for the drag racing ! Even Santa Pod, our, ahem, premier dragstrip, is a dump. The only reason people go there is the cars and not much other choice ! The top fuel and funny teams we have, all run on a shoe string budget, the most fun we get is when the Swedes and Germans visit. I want to visit the US for a Drag holiday, where would be best to go and what event ?

@turboslag Here's a link the the strip that I live 10-15 minutes from here in Arizona. Check out the pics page... LOTS of sunshine!

There is one other full time strip in the UK, Avon Park Raceway. Drag racing is disappointingly small time in the UK but the major factor that deters investers from opening more is the weather !! There are also a couple of part time strips but their surfaces are compromised by long periods without runs, and they have no facilites.
Wish we had a scene like the US where there is mid week Drag racing at night, I'd live there !!
That sounds about right for those early nitro engines. Modern ones are making an estimated 7-8000hp, LOL

I go to Santapod Raceway a lot (A drag strip here in the UK), and the Fuel-altered's are just amazing...
I love Drag Racing. No other sport like it on Earth. The sheer noise, the atmosphere, the smell, the cars~
Waking up in a tent at 7am to the sound of 7-litre V8's test-firing for their runs; and eating beans and bacon cooked on a gas-camping stove before walking 100 yards to the fastest strip of tarmac in the UK;
And then you go home, your clothes STINKING of Nitro-Methanol.
Gottah love it.

@SirVladDracula Just proves that it doesn't matter where you live. Some things we all hold sacred.

Wow. Un-informed people making comments . . . it doesn't have carbs, it looks like standard mechanical fuel injection typically run off the front of the camshaft.
And if you think its about to blow up at 2:15 then you know nothing about running on nitro
