@rrtodd95 I practice Martial Arts, and I have a very simple explanation as to why some black belts fail. The reason is they forgot Sensei's most important suggestion: Practice kata at home too. It's good if you can demonstrate talent in class, but if you don't actually know how to apply the kata, you are at a disadvantage. Also, try to use your environment to your advantage. I quote Masaaki Hatsumi: "The enemy who is against the laws of nature will lose the battle before he begins to fight."

A black belt doesn't make you a fighter, it means you can do your kata's and know the kicks. Doesn't mean you can fight.

I don't mean you can throw kicks and beat up some idiot. I mean you can hit, get hit back and not shut down. I've seen hundreds of black betls in my life who can't fight because they shut down when they get hit.
