No description really necessary - just watch it and judge for yourself.

If you are a Narangba, Deception Bay, Dakabin, North Lakes or Burpengary resident who was impacted in some way by the Binary Industries fire, then just wait and see what the Moreton Bay Regional Council and the Hazardous Industries and Chemicals Branch have planned for you.

The new proposal by the larger of the pesticide industries is to store bulk quantities of a flammable liquid that was responsible for the explosions that rocked Binary Industries on 25 August 2005. The difference is that they propose to store this substance in bulk quantities of at least 10 times the quantities involved in the Binary Industries fire, but in enormous bulk tanks that can cause an overpowering explosion known as a BLEVE.

The substance at Binary Industries was only stored in individual 1,000 litre containers, not bulk tanks as this new proposal endeavours to do. Bulk storage provides the scenarion of a BLEVE and directly opposite the irradiation plant that caused enormous controversy when it was built in the Narangba Industrial Estate with 350 rods containing cobalt 60 that emits gamma radiation, which is the more deadly of the radiation types. A massive explosion opposite this irradiation facility has the potential to cause dire consequences for the local area.

  • Several inaccuracies in this video.

The incident re excess MIPA at Accensi is referred to as March 2007 and later as March 2008. Actual date is March 2008.

Accensi is licenced to have two ISO tankers of MIPA on site, not one as stated in the video.

The new site is not for storing MIPA in bulk, but is to be used as a buffer for the imported ISOs, so that the licence condition (i.e. 2 ISOs) is met. Potentially there will be no MIPA ISOs stored at the new site in order to avoid demurrage.
