Awareness is also created in using natural and bio-degradable items for decoration around Ganesh like flowers,papers avoiding use of thermocol. Artificial water reserviors are now set up in Mumbai and people are encouraged to use them for ganesh Visarjan (immersion).The flowers used in ganesh festival are collected to be used a manure instead of dumping them in seas and lakes

Past 4-5 years many Non profit organizations have come up with the concept of Eco-friendly Ganesh to avoid the pollution of the water reservoirs ,seas and lakes ,there by protecting the environment and the marine life.
There are vendors now in Mumbai who sell Ganesh idols made 100% by clay and organic vegetable colors,Some organisations have developed a unique way of making the idols using paper pulp and clay
