the eye was only about 5 miles wide so if you were in the eye then you were one of a very few to experience a daytime CAT 4 eye. According the the NHC the winds at landfall were near 130 knots. That's about 150 mph.

Hurricane Charley was the meanest storm I've been in no doubt about it. NHC write up on Charley had the winds near 150 mph at landfall. Stronger than even Katrina.
