Sorbitol (C6H14O6): 35%
Iron III oxide - Black (Fe3O4): + 1%
Iron II oxide - Red (Fe2O3): +1%

  • help plz,....i can't find KNO3 anywhere, is there any alternatives??? can i use sorbitol alone with the other ingredients

  • I don't know anything about KNO3 alternatives, but avoid Sodium Chlorate because it's dangerous. Not made for rocket.

For information, the mix :sorbitol + other ingredients but without KNO3 doesn't burn because KNO3 acts as an Oxydizer

  • wow dude that had a very even burn rate and an excellent sized flame. 5*

  • This is the mix I had used in my 100% home made rocket video (shot 1 to 6).

Actually I'm trying to increase the burning rate. Soon, I wil organise a race between Potassium ferricyanide+Iron carbonate vs Pb3O4+Al ... Thx for th e 5*

  • It's funny I purchased these sugar free wafers. While eating, I was wondering how can wafers be sugar free? Turns out they used Sorbitol, which led me to your clip. Sorbitol is also used as a laxative, and causes severe diarrhea if too much is ingested, hehehe. I'll be expecting those flames coming out of my ass later on :D

  • Potassium Chlorate can be used to make rockets (relatively) safely.

Only use Charcoal powder or aromatic salts (Sodium Benzoate, etc...). Make sure whichever composition you use has NO Sulfur, Sulfides, Phosphorus, Phosphides, Ammonium compounds or any acids! - Very important.

It would be advisable to add 2% MgCO3 as an anti-acid.

This type of propellant should ONLY be pressed into it's respective container.

Summary: Nitrates are safer than Chlorates.

  • Nice burn. Perhaps very consistent thrust but how about it's exhaust toxicity?

  • @malterance KNO3 is most commonly found in pure form as stump remover. you might find this at a garden supply store or hardware store

  • The question is, does increasing the burn rate increase Isp?

  • show me chem eq

  • @wafflethug i too found this clip looking up the ingredients in my ALTOIDS mints

  • @PyRex124 Would using MnO2 ( manganese dioxide ) instead of Fe2O3 ( iron oxide ) increase burn rate as well ?

  • Very steady burn rate nice!

  • very nice fuel. it would core it though.

  • @malterance there is one alternative and it works but you kind of have to make it sodium hydroxide (lye) and ammonium nitrate (fertalizer) and mix with water OUTSIDE!!! makes lots of ammonia gas and can be very harmfull if not fatal wait for it to stop bubling then let it crystalize outside or inside the crystals are NaNO3 or sodium nitrate

  • Nice burn composition, this is good, use your plugs in a compression tube with Converging/Diverging nozzle and work your aspect ratio you will get better results, this is just my thought, nothing really... awe do whatever. Cool.
