Really enjoying the playthrough dude! Going for plat myself; i'm not too far off now, it's been painful and frustrating at times but will be worth it in the end. Looking forward to seeing how you progress. Good luck!

You actually have explored almost all of the castle already. You should see the blacksmith, though. You'll need him for making lightning and special weapons.

I still think you should make a better weapon for yourself. Quelaag's Furysword is a particularly good one. Look it up!

As far as I know, you can't do anything with the fireplaces. That guy is just messing with you. :P

The best way to handle the knights in the castle is to learn to backstab. You can actually backstab in the middle of combat: just circle around behind them, push towards them, and use light attack. You failed once in the painting room mostly because you weren't close enough to the guy's back. Keep practicing on the knights around the bonfire you're at. It will pay off for the rest of this run.
