Seals On Thin Ice On The Eve Of The 2006 Baby Seal Slaughter

This is a video of the Humane Society of the United States and the Protect Seals team leader, the absolutely incredible Rebecca Aldworth flying over the ice floes on the eve of Canada's annual baby seal slaughter.

Because of global warming; the ice was very thin this year and was some of the worst ice conditions in history. If mother seals cannot give birth to the pups on the ice they will abandon them in the water and they will die instantly.

Many untold numbers of baby harp seals drowned due to a lack of ice as it melted beneath them before they were old enough to swim properly. The ones that did survive; clinged to floating ice pans as they had not yet learned to swim to stay alive.

Despite all of this the DFO (the Destruction of Fisheries and Oceans) gave the green light for sealers to club and shoot these innocent baby animals to death in one of the highest quotas in the history of the baby seal slaughter.

The Canadian baby seal slaughter is a crime against nature and the environment and is a completely unnecessary unacceptable injustice against animals.

@DeathMachinima I'm sure seal clubbers aren't evil people. For some people, it's their job that supports themselves and their familes. :/ Don't hate the seal clubbers, hate the government who allows for this to occur and refuses to offer support to families who live off of this practice.

Slaughtered animals never know why they are being killed. That doesnt make killing them any worse or any better.

They club them because it minimizes the damage to the fur. They kill the babies because they have unique fur. Its the same idea as veal vs beef. You cant kill an adult animal for veal.

Pet owners have their pets put down in a painless way, but beyond that, the killing of animals is always painful and unpleasant.

@Qyburnator it's the way that they kill them. would you like to be beaten to a very painful death and literally have no idea why??? i don't think so. if they need to kill the seals, first of all they should not be killing babies, and second of all they could kill them instantly and without causing them any pain.
