  • Geez those look like mine do this year. I probably should look at your vids cuz I am curious if you transplanted them and if they came up this year for you?

  • @dragonsgirl - I didn't transplant them, but they did awesome this year. They are june bearers, even though they actually produced in mid to late may. I am going to make a strawberry bed, but not anytime soon. If this is your first year for your strawberries, don't give up, mine did much better the second year. good luck

  • It looks like you have "june bearer" strawberries. They produce for a few weeks and then spend the rest of the summer sending off runners. "Everbearers send less runners and produce berries for a longer period. Once your plants finish putting out fruit, pour on the nitrogen or compost. That will cause them to produce massive runners and leaves and store up energy for next spring. They use stored up energy from this fall to put out fruit next spring. You'll do fine! :)

  • Thanks for the info. I don't even know what variety the are. The wife just came home and planted them.....

  • Thanks for this. I have just put in some strawberries...Red Gauntlet...on the garden bed edges. Tried mounding them but forgot that at first. They seem to be taking off but will have to see, Got some alpine strawberry seedlings coming up that I will try in a more shaded area. You can get new plants from runners but even so I think you have to get completely new ones every three years or so, Look forward to an update on what you learn and how the strawberries go.

  • I really haven't been too excited about the strawberries. My wife brought them home and planted them. I can't believe how many people are growing them. Maybe I should put a little more effort into them. LOL

  • I'm no expert, but they are a perennial, so they will grow every year. They will only produce well for a couple of years though (so I'm told).

  • do you plant strawberries once or do you have to replant them every year like tomatoes???

  • dont feel bad me and my husband have our differences sometimes over the garden lol and honey im still reseaching strawberries but good luck

  • The strawberries were the wife's idea so I haven't really paid much attention to them. I'm going to have to do some research i think.
