Diff lapping 2 of 3 - Lapping Machine

Second of three videos showing the diff lapping process on our Gleason lapping machine. Here we show the technician lapping a spiral bevel crownwheel and pinion. The grey liquid is lapping paste, which cuts into the gearset and reshapes the teeth.

Lapping can improve the performance of a diff and reduce driving noise.

This process takes off the high points of the contact surface and brings the whole surface down to the lowest point.

This stops noises coming from the diff.
