Been making homemade tin whistles down in the garage, tuning isn't perfect, but then again who is?

  • Your tune is lovely.....never mind the whistle....joke....

  • Thanks for all the nice comments Amy. Most of the music on my channel is mine, this unfortunately isn't, it's by Sean O'Riada, an Irish composer. All the best

  • Cool! How do you make the mouth piece?

  • You need a drill (preferably mounted), a lathe, and some sharp tools. First you drill a 20mm hole in one end, then 16mm in the other end (they meet halfway). Then you put stoppers (wood or cork) in both ends and mount it on the lathe and give it an even finish. Then you drill two small holes c.3 cm, down and widen them out. Fit a 3cm fipple and bit by bit widen out the air channel. Is all this clear? Maybe it's better if I make a video...what do you think?

  • Out of tune, poorly played, tinny sound, out of wind, clangy guitar....You`ll go a long way!!!

  • Checked out your channel naychud, thinking you might be a musician or something, who could show us 'how it's done'. Was disappointed - you don't seem to be able to do anything but slag people off. How about a new channel name "hurlerOnTheDitch"!

  • What a great idea for a hobby .. There is a lovely tone to this instrument .. obviously intonation is a bit of an issue but I'm sure there must be great satisfaction in the pursuit of perfection. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing with us.

  • As far as I know, this tune far pre-dates Sean O'Riada, since it belongs to the "O'Neill collection", which amassess to some 2000 or so tunes, more than any one composer can make in his life. Especially since Sean only barely reached 40. Although himself and Ceoltóirí Chualann may have had a hand in bringing popular life to it.

  • painfull....uhhg

  • sounds good

  • It's cool! Make a video!

    I don't have a lathe... :( It's hard to use?

  • Don`t take it personally. I do play the flute, badly. You`re better than me. And I do like hurling...a great game.
