One of the best West Coast folk-rock/psychedelic bands, Love may have also been the first widely acclaimed cult/underground group. During their brief heyday -- lasting all of three albums -- they drew from Byrds-ish folk-rock, Stones-ish hard rock, blues, jazz, flamenco, and even light orchestral pop to create a heady stew of their own. They were also one of the first integrated rock groups, led by genius singer/songwriter Arthur Lee, one of the most idiosyncratic and enigmatic talents of the 1960s. Stars in their native Los Angeles and an early inspiration to the Doors, they perversely refused to tour until well past their peak. This ensured their failure to land a hit single or album, though in truth the band's vision may have been too elusive to attract mass success anyway.

Verse 1:
Here's my baggage, hand me my staff
I'm leaving on a plane, a boat or raft

Verse 2:
My love, I love, so hard to choose
If that were in my mind, it I would use
Oh...

Bridge:
Goin' back to mother
Leavin' on the double
Think I'll go to mexico

  • Have this album as well as Forever Changes and 4 Sail.

  • Does anyone know where their castle was? In one tv spot they did, Arthur said it was near Griffith Park, but is it still standing today? I'd love to at least see it in person sometime.

  • @mdugand roller girl?

  • @Shirokinukatsukami Yes they did live in a house in Hollywood that was like a castle. I dated a girl who went there often and roller skated around inside.

  • Pleased to find this tune here. I bought the Elektra BEST CD and it wasn't on it. I love the spanish guitar influences on Love's stuff, the ending reminds me of a bull fight...! Isn't that Lurch on harpsichord?!

  • its like simon and garfunkle jammin with the Doors. and i mean that as a compliment. Arthur Lee will be sorely missed. found out that arthur and syd barret had died from a shitey sunday suppliment magazine. nothing is sacred. thank fuck for their legacy.
