@BillyL96 The first Star is Born was the best IMO and she already got her Oscar ten years earlier.

Rest in Peace, Lady Kelly.

who is jude
just GRACE I LOVE YOU

This movie underscored the need for a womans' movement. Somebody should have slapped the taste out of Holden's mouth.

I think Grace shows her range as an actress here.I´m a Judy fan as well but Grace knocks it out of the ballpark here.Sadly nothing has changed in Hollywood, with women rarely get this meaty material and more often get to play the beautiful blonde.

I don't think she was the front-runner - the Globes, National Board of Review & New York Critics all picked Kelly.

Regardless of the Oscar controversy, this movie to me is a classic. The kind of acting you rarely see today. A wonderful picture!

I'll admit her intonation is quite limited, but the one justification for her academy award is probably the length of her scenes. In some shots there is very little editing and conversations go on and on without inserting any cutaways whatsoever. And within those scenes there is often a range of emotion. A very theatrical performance. Probably very few actresses or directors can do that anymore. These days you need constant editing. And when she wears that black dress towards the end--WOW!
I also agree that Judy SHOULD have won the Oscar, and that it was a huge mistake made by the Academy. While Grace's preformance was great, Judy's was the better of the two. I don't see why Judy didn't win? I mean she was the front runner to win. People today know Kelly as "Princess Grace", and don't even remember The Country Girl. While, A Star is Born and Judy Garland's preformance are immortal.
