@chrishot10 I agree entirely with you.

I really don't understand why so much attention in the comments to what Kowalski is wearing, to his guitar and TV. Yes, the production is controversial, but I have this DVD and it all makes sense to me. I would never believe before I watched it all that I could like this kind of production. But all 80 minutes is PURE MAGIC! Kowalski here is a modern day Orfeo. This production was made especially for him and refects his individuality. Is it so difficult to accept? He's GREAT, STUNNING and a MAN!

Jochen sounds great, but yes, the guitar and tv are painful to watch.

@chrishot10 I agree, absolutely

@chrishot10 Yes, the way of directing is terrible, although the playing is magnifique.

Kudos to the conductor for allowing the tempo changes near the end; it makes the piece much more expressive than when the tempo is relentlessly unchanging, as is the case in some renditions. The problem with the staging is not so much that it isn't "period" (what would that be, anyway?) but that so much (like the TV) is just inane and pointless

I can take a guitar. Fine. But why does he carry what looks like an old tv set?
Singing alteration from the score at the end is not to my liking - can't tell what he feels - sounds either sarcastic or even enthusiastic. Euridice is from some fetish fashion freak show =D

So true.

It is unfortunate that some opera directors think that they have to save opera from itself. With this kind of concept they are achieving the opposite!
Those modern ways of directing such all time classic masterpieces are so ridiculous... It's painful to watch, really.

I saw this production (if you can call it that) and again we have wonderful singing,encased in a load of crap.
Why can't directors leave an opera's structure alone,and work within it's musical and dramatic framework?
