Fifty years after the END of the excavation, the initial parts of Diolkos are still victims of an assisted demolition. Not content with letting Diolkos be dismembered while backing-up a series of FRAUDS of the Canal (which is directly supervised by the Minister of Finance and comprised -until recently- TWO representatives of the local government in its Board of Directors, not to mention other appointed Corinthians), the Greek Ministry of Culture has set up ANOTHER series of frauds in which, with the help of the MULTIPLY RESPONSIBLE local government, they present UNTRUE accounts of the monument and of their presumed interest for its welfare, while hushing-up the archaeological and financial crimes connected, for example, with the mock Canal studies TO WHICH THE SALVATION OF DIOLKOS HAD BEEN LINKED, and which continued to be brought forward BY THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE even AFTER they had turned out to be complete "bubbles"!!!
The HEAVY involvement of local government is one of the factors that explain why the archaeologists were so confident in LYING about the protection of the monument: they thought nobody was going to EXPOSE anything....
A 2011 (preliminary?) study for a wavebreaker (commissioned to another Ministry to FIT the dogma that Diolkos' protection from the sea was NOT the Ministry of Culture's business-- and ALREADY called just a "PROPOSAL" by Diolkos' keepers), could very well be the continuation of this series of frauds... as long as it remains on paper!
The Ministry officials are always pretending to "decide" whatever they think will be asked of them by a nosy Judge, so by now they have quite a few such "decisions" to display to Justice Authorities while holding back information about decades of FRAUDS and assisted demolition.
The situation of the monument is of no consequence, their primary (if not only!) goal is to ABSOLVE themselves and their complices: having for example the Canal Company apparently go along with the wavebreaker solution will be covering THEIR responsibilities, too...
Now, this last piece of "care" is purported to be the product of a kind of .... "awe" the Ministry's General Secretary, Mrs. Lina Mendoni, felt in the late summer of 2010 after looking at a Diolkos video, NOT showing the destruction and partly financed by the Technical Chamber of Greece... THIS is another "gem" of the whole story... It acquires special meaning if one thinks of the participation of various Polytechnic Professors in every step of the Canal's studies - including A.R., who appears to be the REPRESENTATIVE of the Technical Chamber of Greece in a committee related to the first study (purportedly done in 1984 BY the Canal Company) AND a consultant engineer in its last -and quite shady- remake in 1997...(*)
The creators of the documentary ALSO belong to circles of local government who have been TRYING BY ALL MEANS to let it appear that they SAVED the monument. Whatever their involvement may have been, the fact is that LOCAL GOVERNMENT has designed - put in act - participated in - taken advantage of - and then covered up... a horrific series of FRAUDS that BROUGHT ABOUT all this devastation...
