Actually this was first done - composed and arranged - by the Joe Harriott / John Mayer Indo-Jazz Fusions band on their first lp set in 1967. And no, its not the currently 'famous' John Mayer either. This one was an Anglo-Indian musician of some renown. And Harriott was and is a jazz star.
