Bangladesh , officially the People's Republic of Bangladesh is a country in South Asia. It is bordered by India on all sides except for a small border with Burma to the far southeast and by the Bay of Bengal to the south. Together with the Indian state of West Bengal, it makes up the ethno-linguistic region of Bengal. The name Bangladesh means "Country of Bengal" in the official Bengali language.
The borders of the region that constitutes present-day Bangladesh were established in the 1947 Partition of India when the region became the eastern wing of newly formed Pakistan. The pairing, based on their common religion of Islam, proved geographically awkward since an expanse of foreign Indian Territory, 1 600 km (1 000 mi) wide, separated the two wings. Subjected to political and linguistic discrimination as well as economic neglect at the hands of West Pakistan, the Bengalis of East Pakistan declared independence in 1971. After a liberation war, with help from India and the Soviet Union, Bangladesh was born. In spite of its liberation narrative, Bangladesh's development has since been marred by political turmoil, with fourteen different heads of government and at least four military coups.
Bangladesh is among the most densely populated countries in the world and has a high poverty level.

Geographically the country straddles the fertile Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta and is subject to annual monsoon floods and cyclones. The government is a parliamentary democracy which has been suspended under emergency law since 11 January 2007. Bangladesh is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, SAARC, BIMSTEC, the OIC, and the D-8.

Bangladesh had a total of nearly 9,500 troops committed to UN Peacekeeping operations around the world, the most of any nation in the world

There's a slight inaccuracy in your description (it doesn't matter though). Bangladesh in 1947 was called Eastern Bengal with its other side was West Bengal (which is today a province in India). East Bengal was renamed to East Pakistan in 1956, not in 1947.

You obviously have no appreciation of us bengalis. I am from West Bengal and an Indian, but that does not dilute my identity as a Bengali. We may be two nations, and we may be split between two religions, but our common linguistic, cultural & ethnic identity means much much more to us. We Bengalis in West Bengal bear towards our brothers accross the border in Bangladesh, more love and regard than for anyone else

You are so absolutely true. I am from West Bengal. An Indian yes, but every bit a Bengali too. My grandfather came to calcutta in the 40s from Comilla. and just as the most special place in our hearts are reserved from our brothers in Bangladesh, the national anthem too touches our hearts, and sometimes makes us poignant thinking how sad it is that whereas when Rabindranath wrote it, we are one people, today we are broken into two nations with so little mutual interaction

  • Anyone have the name of this beautiful song???

  • hummadthegreat dumbass,

There is no East Bengal anymore.. forgotten already? Or simply chose to ignore the fact?

And one humble suggestion, attend history classes!!

  • yaah you big mouth, why dont you make a united west and east bengal???, if you are not so dumb as you appear now???

  • Amazing! Very beautiful!

I wish you put a Bangla song, this song is Punjabi.

I bet there are many beautiful Bangla songs around, which you can hook up with this vid.

    Cheers!
