@dmine45 I hardly see 5Es anymore and even more rare are 4Es in texas anyway... i mostly see DMS switches... all the end COs in houston utilize DMS switches with maybe 2 cabinets of 5Es and 4Es where the rest of the space is occupied by clunky DMS.
There are still people who monitor the AT&T long lines network 24/7, but for the most part the 4ESS and 5ESS systems figure out how to reroute calls automatically.

I just think it's funny that the bell system ran commercials at all considering it was a monopoly till the deregulation.

@Dillinger128 End office COs are a mix of 5ESS, DMS and others. But the AT&T backbone are still 4ESS and 5ESS switches.
