Bus network is much wider and more extensive than subway, but it can be very slow and stressful. So my advice for tourists is using combination of both. Purchase the reasonable 2-day "Kyoto sightseeing card", which costs only 2000 yen.

dont call me a liar but i am actually a distant descent from Kiyomizu. I live in america though

When ever I go to Japan, I visit Kiyomizu Temple via Ninen-saka to Gion area. It is excelent sightseeing point to check around. Last time I was there was early April when cherry tree were anywhere in this whole area. That was gorgeous.
