After seeing a contest for this posted, and then having my comments deleted, I thought it would be a wonderful idea to SEE these wonderful ladies in action! I have tried to brighten up the picture of the Sutherland video, so you could at least see the slap. Again a score of 1-5 for singing/characterization:
Loved it until Ricciarelli says "prostinato" instead of "profanato". Looks like someone forgot their lines LOL ..otherwise great singing & acting. Ricciarelli could sing Verdi's Aida, Puccini's Tosca, Verdi's Desdemona and Leonora ...she could sing Norma and Anna Bolena. Truly a gifted bel canto lirico spinto.
@tenore23 You're completely right! Thanks for the info! But even if she just got lost in the text you can perfectly follow the thread of the story in a much better way than some "fantastic" prima donna but boring and uninteresting as h... Thanks!
Sorry Guys... Don't know about singing, but this production is really something. Even compared to the other ones.
I read that Ricciarelli's career didn't last long but she really got her role done! And communicates! Nice! Sometimes opera stops being useless and becomes a wonder!
Just looked at the all, and I still think this one is the best.

My God, the tenor sounds like he's got a metronome built in.
