A wonderful boost to Britain after the war years. And what a beautiful commentary!

This seems lovely, amazing and cheerful to people at the time, especially considering what they had been through. Wouldn't it have been nice to have it still today? Churchill was a great man, but it seems unnecessarily vengeful that he had this all demolished so quickly.

The opening scenes emphasise was a ruddy tragedy it was that the South Bank site was ignominiously dismantled in the Spring of 1952, including the iconic (and let's be clear, it WAS iconic) Skylon. I personally believe a scaled down representation of the Skylon should stand on the 4th plinth in Trafalgar Square, as a permanent reminder of what Britain could (once) achieve.

It was BRILLIANT!
11 years old and the Science and Natural History museums thrown in.
The south bank festival inspired a wonderful feeling of post war optimism and hope for those who visited, what a tragic pity it was that the following decades saw successive GOVERNMENTS filled with INCOMPETENT, CORRUPT, SELF SERVING POLITICIANS conspire to DESTROY that optimism and drag this once GREAT country down into the mire where it is today.
