January 5, 2010 update : A new alpha version has been released, look it up there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAs3taEgAXs
December 23, 2009 update : As you have probably already seen in the video, I'm currently working on a port of my engine to make it works perfectly with gm 7 unregistered and eventually gm8. I'm also working on fixing every glitches, fixing the major slowdowns, fixing the very bugged and inaccurate vertical speed system (although I'm the only one who noticed it :P) and cleaning everything in general. Feel free to subscribe, not that I care much but I'll definitely release one or more videos about it pretty soon, so if you're interested in a new version, go for it.
Me playing through first level of my engine, couldn't record sound but it will do the job until I get something better. It's just for demonstration.
Here's the link for those that haven't been redirected from something about this project.

It has been done with gamemaker 6.1. It's an open source engine letting anyone make their own smb3 game. The project is still in progress though.
Go there to download gamemaker 6.1 (which is needed to make this engine works correctly) It's at the bottom of the page. You need gamemaker "old version 6.1A"

June 15th 2008: I've just added some annotations to the video.
December 20th 2007: Wooah, 50,000 views. Sweet! Don't forget to watch the other video I made about it. It contains much more

@rvalkproductions heheh thank you ^^ I've been following a computer science program for 2 years though and I've learned some new languages. I did want to try to develop something on my own in maybe c++ or vb eventually. If I feel productive next semester I might give it a try lol.
