This is the first movement of EROS, a large symphonic choral work I wrote for my senior recital. It's based off of the psychological concepts of Thanatos and Eros and creates a dramatic arc spanning from one to the other. The piece consists of ten different poems I wrote which I had translated into ten different languages. This one is Russian. The text is as follows:
Broken.
We are broken and frightened.
We are angry and hateful.
Time will not reward us
As proud, ignorant judges.
Our boats will sink; no one will man them.
Our houses will burn; no one will save them.
Our hearts will freeze; no one will warm them.
We are small, selfish things, our petals torn and withered.
We have broken each other.
We have broken ourselves.
Only death is left, waiting to take us.
